TORAJA WOVEN FABRIC
We are a general trading company, located in Wasuponda Subdistrict- Luwu Timur regency. We have been trading many kinds of Industrial product to a Multi-National Nickel Mining company- PT. Vale Indonesia Tbk- since 2013.
Since March 2018, we have collaborated with the Regent of North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi Province in marketing Toraja tribal woven products. The Regent of North Toraja Regency asked our company to market the original Toraja ethnic woven fabric. North Toraja Regency is also known as archaeological tourism sites, traditional dances and ceremonies.
The Toraja people are very guarding their traditional and cultural heritage. One of the traditional and cultural heritages is drawn on the fabric of the Toraja tribe. Toraja Woven Fabric is one of the well-known woven fabrics in Indonesia. Natural colors and istinctive motifs are the main attraction among fashion connoisseurs. Not only is it aesthetically appealing, Toraja weaving also has a high cultural value which symbolizes
prosperity and glory. The manufacture of woven fabric is carried out from generation to generation in handmade, using dyes that come from nature. This flavor woven fabric become a clothing material used in adat ceremony.
In the process of making, Toraja woven is created from the hands of women and men. For the craftsmen of the original Toraja tribe, the woven fabric they made was the inheritance of the Toraja tribe which they were obliged to preserve. The cultural values contained in each process are very philosophical and contain the values of the local wisdom of the Toraja tribe. Each motif of the woven fabric has a name. For the Toraja tribe, this woven fabric is an expression of their gratitude to God and appreciation for the nature of God's creation.
The fineness of the yarn fibers and the sharpness of the motif require precision in the process for a period of 3-4 months for each strand. The aesthetic value displayed is the fruit of expression and appreciation for cultural values that have been preserved for hundreds of years.
