Development and application of sophisticated technologies from functional food products and semi –products preparation

Project target: Business diversification, development of new
sophisticated technologies, transfer of technology to SME food
producer in Serbia, in the region and abroad, contribution to
farming business development in the country.
Project purpose: Production of lyophilization equipment,
establishment of the Laboratory for monitoring biologically activity
of functional food and production of many new products using freeze
draying technologies.
Process description: ELBI started freeze – draying project together
with Faculty of Agriculture - Zemun Serbia. Project objective is
development and application of sophisticated technologies from
functional food products and semi –products preparation from
different sort of fruits, vegetables specifically mushrooms and
meat. Almost any food can be freeze – dried. Wet samples frozen
first in the refrigerator truck. A lot of local food producer in
Serbia owned a refrigerator truck and this is the first very
important step which reduces duration of process and cost. Then the
functional food transfer to a vacuum chamber to freeze. Freeze –
draying has several advantages over other food preservation methods.
The freeze–draying remove water and oxygen – the two primary causes
of food deterioration. The principal advantages of lyophilization as
a drying process are minimum damage and loss of activity in delicate
heat-liable materials, speed and completeness of rehydratation,
possibility of accurate clean dosing into final product containers
and porous, friable structure. Freeze – dried foods taste fresh,
look fresh, the weigh less than fresh and stay fresh. Frozen foods
retain fresh flavor and nutritional value. The freeze –dried food is
pack in moisture – and – oxygen proof packaging ensure freshness
until opened.
The project had two parts .The first parts are production facilities
for lyophilization equipment and second part is factory for freeze-
draying products, mainly fruits from Valjevo region with testing
laboratory Location All industrial facilities are located in
Industrial Zone Valjevo Serbia.
Project cost: 2,2 million Euros including 0,262 mil euro for working
capital needs.ELBI invested until now about one million euro
(infrastructure investment and equipment) from internal cash.
Beginning of this year the Company stopped to invest in this
project.The reason is big increase of production and sales volume in
core business in 2014 and high working capital needs. The sales
income in 2014 will be three times higher than in 2013 (2, 2 million
euro in 2013 and 6 million euro in 2014) Export will be two third of
the annual income. The Company needs financial support to finish the
project.
