High-performance materials dedicated for OLED displays

הזדמנות עסקית זאת היא בת למעלה מחצי שנה מומלץ לבדוק האם היא עדיין בתוקף

We are a technology company based in Toruń (Poland) and listed on Warsaw Stock Exchange NewConnect market is operating in the field of photonics developing both proprietary technology and offering materials under custom synthesis model.

As developer of proprietary technology, we are a designer and producer of the new (3rd and 4th) generation of OLED emitters – chemical compounds that emit light upon the application of the electric charge. Our TADF (thermally activated delayed fluorescence) emitters can be used not only in displays (in TVs, monitors, smartphones, tablets, wearables, and VR and AR devices), but also in lighting. They are developed to be used in both PVD and IJP applications. Apart from new generation emitters Noctiluca offers custom synthesis.

WHAT IS EMITTER?

Emitter is a vital part of any OLED display and determines its parameters of colour, contrast and lifetime. Best in class TV today is OLED, best in class iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Xiaomi are all OLED and most innovation in display technology is headed to OLED. The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display stack is made up of thin layers of organic materials. One of these layers, and perhaps the most important one, is the emitter – which actually converts electricity into visible light. This emitter and the rest of the organic materials together form a sub-pixel, the basic building block of an OLED display.

TADF EMITTERS DEVELOPED BY NOCTILUCA

Currently used 1st and 2nd generation emitters have a number of shortcomings: high cost, use of heavy metals and overall limited energy efficiency among others. Next-generation emitters, like those developed by Noctiluca, are an alternative to existing technology. They enable manufacturers to make a super-thin display that offers high picture quality, energy savings, and a longer lifespan. Importantly, it does not require heavy metals or rare-earth elements present in older-generation displays. All things considered, next-generation OLED technology successively supersedes older displays and is increasingly used in high-end products, and Noctiluca emitters have drawn the attention of industry giants, including LG Display, which begins testing Noctiluca emitters under the MTA agreement signed at the beginning of this year.

ADVENTAGES OF NOCTILUCA EMITTERS

Advantages of TADF emitters developed by Noctiluca:

  • Noctiluca is one of the leading players globally pursuing deep blue emitters, making major steps to deliver the innovation for the benefit of the whole OLED industry.
  • Our proprietary materials require only 2-3 synthesis steps. Since they are fairly easy to manufacture and customize to the needs of an OLED stack of a given partner, it makes us a partner of the first choice for those OLED producers, who look not only for a quality product, but also a responsible technology development partner, who can optimise the performance of not only emitters, but also other OLED materials – e.g. hosts within our partner’s OLED stack.
  • While TADF materials for PVD are reaching the specifications required by the industry that plans to replace phosphorescence (2nd generation OLED materials), the TADF for ink-jet printing (IJP) was lacking in quality. Noctiluca’s materials are able to bridge this gap and our materials for IJP show the same level of maturity as its commercially available TADF materials for Thermal evaporation (PVD).
  • On top of that, Noctiluca offers emitters in the whole colour palette, ranging from yellow, through green to blue, with red in heavy R&D process – we are a one-stop-shop for IJP OLEDs

CUSTOM SYNTHESIS

Apart from emitters developed by Noctiluca, our company offers custom synthesis.

Noctiluca’s Team have over 15 years of experience in both R+D projects, as well as in the production of organic and organometallic compounds from milligrams to multi-kilograms. Our experience includes among others, high purity organometallic compounds of gallium, zirconium, tin, and indium ALD and CVD applications; Gratzel type dyes for DSSC applications; NIR materials; and other organic materials.

We have the necessary laboratory equipment for the synthesis of organic and organometallic compounds sensitive to air and moisture, reactors with a capacity of up to 50 L, industrial rotary evaporator, microreactors, and flow reactors, electrochemical reactors, etc. We have GC and GCMS, HPLC and HPLC MS, IR and UV-VIS spectrometers as well as NMR (700 MHz, 400 MHz, and 300 MHz), ICP-MS, SEM and TEM.

In our custom synthesis offer there are:

  • Transport layer materials - efficient transport of holes and electrons to the emissive layer that is important for the performance of the device. Thermal and electrochemical stability, as well as mobility properties drive the performance of the OLED.
  • Injection layers - our compaby offers emitters in the whole colour palette, ranging from yellow, through green to blue, with red in heavy R&D process – we are a one-stop-shop for IJP OLEDs.
  • Blocking Layers - excitons are confined within the emission layer by using respective HBL and EBL materials which greatly increase the performance of the OLED devices.
  • Host materials - Dispersion of a dopant in a host is common for all four generations of OLED devices, especially for phosphorescent, TADF and Hyperfluorescent technologies. The choice of the right host is crucial for the performance of the device. A new approach is to apply a bipolar host which consists of donor and acceptor groups in a molecule – such structure of the host has a great influence on the stability and lifetime of the devices. Among the most frequently applied hosts are: CBP, T2T, mCP, TmPyPB, TAPC, TCTA, TPD, ADN, TCP, CzSi, mCBP, DPEPO, CDBP, TSBF, BCBP, BCPO (bipolar), mCPSOB (bipolar), BCzPh, PYD-2Cz (bipolar), 26DCzPPy (bipolar), 35DCzPPy (bipolar), Cab-Ph-TRZ (bipolar), PPT (bipolar).
  • Dopants - fluorescent and TADF materials efficiently emitting blue, green and yellow light for OLED applications.
