Surprising Statistics: In 2005, about 67,000 dunams of land were cultivated for organic agriculture, about 1.2% of the total land under cultivation (Ministry of Agriculture); 15% of the country’s vegetable exports are organic, but only about 2% of the vegetables sold in the local market are organic. About 90% of bio-organic crops are designated for export (“How Do I Know It’s Organic”) (Haaretz online edition).
